Drs. Drew and Joya Lyons first met as classmates in a college program for aspiring dentists. Three years later at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry, late-night study sessions and shared flashcards turned into friendship and eventually love. Their connection grew into a lifelong partnership, sealed with marriage in 2011.
Both earned Biology degrees before dental school—Dr. Drew from North Carolina Central University with honors and Dr. Joya from Hampton University. After dental school, they completed a one-year general practice residency at John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit. They are active members of the ADA, NC Dental Society, and American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Faith guides everything they do, and they often turn to Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, a reminder that life and work are better when shared.
Today, Drs. Drew and Joya Lyons lead The Lyons League, mentor the next generation of dentists, and raise their children, Brielle and Andrew D. Lyons III, also known as Trace. Their family, faith, and professional experience fuel their mission to help dentists build practices that are both profitable and meaningful.
Through The Lyons League, they share their expertise, guidance, and heart to help dentists create the practice and life they’ve always dreamed of.
Dr. Drew grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, and he’s always had an entrepreneurial spirit. After he and Dr. Joya landed their dental positions following residency, he felt this pull toward entrepreneurship. True to his humble, servant-hearted nature, he listened, and he knew he couldn’t do it alone. So, he brought his wife on board.
In 2014, they opened Smile Savvy Cosmetic Dentistry together, and the practice has continued to grow ever since. Along the way, Dr. Drew discovered a real passion for Dental Office Design. His expertise in this area has opened doors he never expected, and now he’s regularly invited to speak at events, sharing what he’s learned with other dental professionals.

Dr. Joya grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, and from an early age, she was drawn to both science and helping others. That passion stayed with her through dental school and into her work at Smile Savvy Cosmetic Dentistry. But her heart doesn’t stop at the doors of the practice.
When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Joya dedicates her time to S.C.O.R.E., INC. This mentorship program offers academic guidance and financial support to high school girls aspiring to careers in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. She runs the program alongside her big sister and mentor, Dr. Janelle Davison, OD, turning their shared vision into a reality. Together, they’ve helped countless young women take the first steps toward careers that once seemed out of reach, and for Dr. Joya, seeing their growth and confidence bloom is just as rewarding as any moment in the dental chair.
